Anúncios
There are two completely different carpenter jobs in Saudi Arabia, and they pay very differently.
A shuttering carpenter builds the timber and plywood moulds that concrete is poured into on a construction site. He works outdoors, in the heat, and earns roughly SAR 1,600 to SAR 2,800 a month.
A joinery carpenter builds kitchens, wardrobes, doors, reception counters and hotel fit-outs. He works in a workshop with machinery, or on a finishing site, and earns roughly SAR 2,500 to SAR 4,000 — with skilled joiners going higher.
Same job title on the iqama. Same word in the advert. A difference of more than a thousand riyals a month, and a completely different working life. Most guides to carpentry in Saudi Arabia never mention this at all, which is why so many carpenters spend years in formwork without realising there was another door.
This guide is written for people already living in Saudi Arabia, on an iqama or as a Saudi national. It covers what each type of carpentry actually pays, the skill test that now applies to the trade, the summer working restrictions, and how to move from the site to the workshop.

Ask this one question at every carpentry interview.
“Is this formwork or joinery?” The advert will almost never say. Formwork means outdoor site work, heat, and the lower end of the pay range. Joinery means workshop or finishing work, machinery, and roughly a thousand riyals a month more. Asking it also signals immediately that you know the trade.

Industry Overview
Carpentry in Saudi Arabia splits into three markets that share a job title but very little else.
Formwork and shuttering
The largest employer of carpenters in the Kingdom. You build the moulds that concrete is poured into — walls, columns, slabs, beams — then strip them once the concrete has cured and move them to the next pour. It is outdoor site work, physically heavy, and the pace is set by the concrete programme. Most carpenters arriving in Saudi Arabia start here.
Joinery and finishing
Kitchens, wardrobes, doors, skirting, panelling, reception desks, hotel and retail fit-outs. Some of it is workshop production with machinery; some is installation on a finishing site. It requires accuracy measured in millimetres rather than centimetres, and it pays accordingly.
Furniture and cabinet making
Workshops producing furniture, majlis seating frames, and bespoke pieces. The smallest of the three markets, the most skill-dependent, and the one where an experienced craftsman can earn well above the site rate.
Why the split matters so much
Formwork skill does not automatically transfer to joinery. A shuttering carpenter is fast, strong and accurate to the centimetre. A joiner works to the millimetre, understands machinery, and produces a visible finish that a client inspects closely. Moving from one to the other is entirely possible — but it is a deliberate move, not something that happens by itself with time served.
Current Demand in 2026
Carpentry demand is strong, but the geography has changed and a lot of published advice has not caught up.
The correction most articles have not made
You will still find pages promising a NEOM carpentry boom. That is out of date. Work on The Line has been halted until after 2030 while the design is reworked to reduce cost, and Trojena has been pushed past 2030. Oxagon, the green hydrogen plant and the data centre projects continue, but the vast formwork demand that was projected for The Line is not currently happening.
Where the work actually is
| Location | What is driving it | Which carpentry |
|---|---|---|
| Diriyah, Riyadh | The strongest live pipeline in the Kingdom, tens of billions still to award | Both — heavy formwork now, joinery following |
| Expo 2030 site, Riyadh | Earthworks complete, structures starting. Peak workforce projected 50,000–70,000 | Formwork, ramping now |
| King Salman International Airport | Terminal construction begins 2026 | Formwork, then large-scale fit-out |
| Qiddiya | Attractions and venues delivering | Both |
| Red Sea & Amaala | Moving from construction to hotel operation | Joinery and maintenance rising, formwork falling |
| Jeddah Central | Phase 1 progressing | Both |
| Riyadh & Jeddah private sector | Villas, towers, retail, hotel refurbishment | Joinery — steady year round |
| NEOM | Only Oxagon, hydrogen and data centres | Limited — do not plan around it |
Who can legally work as a carpenter
| Status | Can you work? |
|---|---|
| Saudi national | Yes, unrestricted |
| Expat with iqama showing a carpentry profession | Yes |
| Expat whose iqama shows an unrelated profession | Profession change needed — the fee is legally the employer’s |
| Dependent iqama holder | No, until converted to a work permit |
| Visit or Umrah visa | No. Working on a visit visa is illegal |
Good news worth stating plainly: carpentry is not on any Saudization list. The 2026 localisation decisions closed 69 administrative roles, security guards, storekeepers, receptionists, call-centre agents, sales and marketing roles to expatriates, and raised quotas in engineering and tourism. Manual trades were not the target. Your trade is not being localised.
Job Roles
| Role | What you do | Monthly (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| Carpenter Helper | Carrying, stripping formwork, cleaning, denailing, oiling panels | 1,200 – 1,600 |
| Shuttering Carpenter | Build and strip formwork for columns, walls, slabs, beams | 1,600 – 2,800 |
| Scaffolding-linked Carpenter | Formwork on complex or high-level structures | 1,800 – 3,000 |
| Finishing Carpenter | Doors, frames, skirting, architraves, on-site fitting | 2,200 – 3,200 |
| Joinery Carpenter | Kitchens, wardrobes, panelling, counters | 2,500 – 4,000 |
| Machine Operator (workshop) | Panel saw, edge bander, CNC router | 2,500 – 4,000 |
| Cabinet Maker / Furniture Carpenter | Bespoke furniture and fine work | 2,800 – 4,500 |
| Carpentry Foreman | Runs a gang, sets out, checks levels and dimensions | 3,000 – 4,500 |
Ranges reflect advertised basic salaries. Foreman and specialist figures rest on a thinner sample and should be treated as indicative.
The role worth aiming at
Workshop machine operator. It is the most underrated step in this trade. Learning to run a panel saw, edge bander or CNC router moves you out of the weather, into a workshop, and onto joinery rates — and the machines are learned in weeks, not years. Very few site carpenters ever ask to be trained on them.
Daily Responsibilities
A formwork day outside summer
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 05:30 | Wake in camp, breakfast |
| 06:30 | Company bus to site |
| 07:00 | Toolbox talk — safety briefing and work allocation |
| 07:15 | Set out and erect formwork to the engineer’s drawing. Check line, level and plumb |
| 10:00 | Short break |
| 11:00 | Props, ties, bracing. The pour cannot happen until the carpenter signs off |
| 12:00 | Lunch and prayer |
| 13:00 | Concrete pour, or stripping yesterday’s shutters and moving panels |
| 16:30 | Bus back. Overtime frequently runs to 18:00 or 19:00, especially before a pour |
Summer changes the day completely
From 15 June to 15 September, outdoor work in direct sunlight is prohibited between 12:00 and 15:00 across the private sector. The penalty is SAR 3,000 per worker, multiplied by the number of workers found in breach.
In practice the day splits into roughly 05:00 to 11:30 and 15:30 to 19:00. Workshop joinery is unaffected — another reason the workshop route is worth pursuing. If a supervisor asks you to work outdoors during the ban, it is the employer breaking the law, and it can be reported on 19911.
What people underestimate
- Formwork is heavy. Panels, props and timber all day, and stripping is harder than erecting
- Accuracy has consequences. A column out of plumb is a concrete problem, not a timber problem, and it is expensive
- The pour dictates everything. If concrete is booked for tomorrow, the formwork is finished tonight
- Nails and cuts. Gloves, boots and eye protection are not optional
- Joinery is quiet but exacting. A visible gap in a wardrobe carcass is rework, and rework is unpaid
Required Skills
| Skill | Why it matters | How to show it |
|---|---|---|
| Reading a drawing | Formwork is built to an engineer’s dimensions, not by eye | Say you can read shop drawings — many carpenters cannot |
| Measuring and setting out | Line, level and plumb decide whether the pour is accepted | Describe how you check a column before signing off |
| Formwork systems | Panel systems differ from traditional timber shuttering | Name the systems you have used |
| Machine operation | The gateway to workshop joinery rates | Panel saw, edge bander, router, CNC |
| Finish quality | What a client inspects in joinery work | Photographs of your own completed work |
| Hardware fitting | Hinges, runners, handles — the fiddly part of joinery | Mention specific brands you have fitted |
| Safety discipline | Large contractors dismiss for breaches | Any safety induction or card you hold |
| Basic English or Arabic | Briefings and instructions | Enough to follow and confirm instructions |
Photograph your work
The cheapest career advice in this guide. Photograph a clean formwork setup, a fitted kitchen, a wardrobe carcass, a door you hung. A carpenter who opens his phone and shows twenty photographs of his own finished work will out-interview a carpenter with fifteen years of experience and nothing to show. In joinery especially, the photographs are the interview.
Education Requirements
None is required. Carpentry in Saudi Arabia is judged on demonstrated ability.
| Role | Education expected | Strict? |
|---|---|---|
| Helper | None | No |
| Shuttering carpenter | None — ability only | No |
| Joinery carpenter | None, though a trade certificate helps | No |
| Machine operator | Machine-specific training, usually given on site | Training yes, schooling no |
| Foreman | None. Experience, drawing literacy, ability to run a team | No |
| Site supervisor / QC | Technical diploma preferred | Moderately |
If you hold a carpentry trade certificate from your home country, keep the original and a clear copy. It will rarely be requested, but it is useful evidence if you are asked to sit a skill test.
Professional Certifications and the Skill Test
The Skill Verification Programme
Saudi Arabia runs a Skill Verification Programme through the Ministry of Human Resources with the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation. It is a practical trade test that confirms a worker registered in a skilled profession can actually perform that work.
Building carpentry is one of the confirmed trades, alongside electrical, plumbing, welding, air conditioning and vehicle mechanics.
- The programme covers more than a thousand professions and has been extended to 160 countries
- There are two tracks: testing in the worker’s home country before arrival, and in-country testing at certified centres for workers already employed in the Kingdom
- Format is typically a short theory section on safety and regulations, then a practical assessment of roughly ninety minutes to two hours
- Registration is at svp.qiwa.sa
An honest caveat. It is widely reported that the certificate is increasingly checked at iqama and work-permit renewal through Qiwa. That is plausible and consistent with how the system is tightening, but we cannot confirm it from an official published rule. Check your own status on svp.qiwa.sa rather than relying on any website, including this one.
Other certifications worth holding
| Certification | Who needs it | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Site safety induction | Everyone on a large project | Employer |
| Working at height | Formwork on slabs and high structures | Employer |
| Scaffold user awareness | Anyone accessing formwork from scaffold | Employer |
| Machine operation sign-off | Workshop machinery | Employer |
| OSHA 30 or IOSH | Foremen on major contracts | Usually employer |
Be careful with paid certificates. Legitimate site certifications come through your employer or an accredited body. Anyone selling a guaranteed Saudi carpentry certificate for a fee — particularly through social media — is selling something no contractor asked for.
Training Programs
Route 1: On-site progression
Start as a helper, learn to set out, then take on your own sections of formwork. Foremen notice who checks their own levels without being told. Most carpenters who reached SAR 2,800 got there this way.
Route 2: Move to the workshop
The single most effective pay move in this trade. Ask a joinery company directly, or ask your current employer whether their fit-out division needs people. Bring photographs. Workshop work pays more, runs indoors, and is unaffected by the summer outdoor ban.
Route 3: Learn the machines
Panel saw, edge bander and CNC router operation are learned in weeks and pay for years. If your employer has a workshop, ask to spend time in it. This request is free and almost nobody makes it.
For Saudi nationals
Saudi citizens can access TVTC vocational carpentry and joinery programmes, the Jadarat employment platform, and Human Resources Development Fund subsidies that pay employers a share of a Saudi employee’s salary for up to two years. Expatriates cannot use any of these, and they make a Saudi hire materially cheaper for an employer.
Salary Guide 2026
Why published averages are wrong
Salary aggregator sites report Saudi carpenter salaries of SAR 5,000 to SAR 9,000 a month. Live contractor adverts show SAR 1,500 to SAR 4,000. The aggregators are modelling, and their models blend office and expatriate-package salaries into trade averages, overstating blue-collar pay by anywhere from 50% to 150%. Everything below is anchored to advertised figures.
| Level | Basic monthly (SAR) | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Helper | 1,200 – 1,600 | Site |
| Shuttering carpenter | 1,600 – 2,800 | Site |
| Finishing carpenter | 2,200 – 3,200 | Site / fit-out |
| Joinery carpenter | 2,500 – 4,000 | Workshop / fit-out |
| Machine operator | 2,500 – 4,000 | Workshop |
| Cabinet maker | 2,800 – 4,500 | Furniture workshop |
| Foreman | 3,000 – 4,500 | Site |
What sits on top of basic
| Element | Typical treatment |
|---|---|
| Accommodation | Camp provided, or SAR 300–600 allowance |
| Transport | Company bus, or SAR 200–400 allowance |
| Food | Sometimes provided; often your own cost |
| Overtime | Hourly wage + 50% of basic — frequently the largest addition |
| Medical insurance | Employer must provide |
| Annual ticket home | Common, usually every one or two years |
| End of service | Paid on leaving |
Article 61 point: since the 2025 Labour Law amendments, the employer must provide housing and transport or a cash allowance in lieu, and this must be addressed in the contract. A contract silent on both is worth questioning before you sign.
Overtime carries the package
Overtime is paid at your hourly wage plus 50% of basic. Formwork carpenters typically work substantial overtime before pours, which is why two carpenters on identical basic salaries can take home very different amounts. Housing and transport allowances are excluded from the overtime calculation unless your contract says otherwise.
End of service benefit
| Service | Entitlement |
|---|---|
| First five years | Half a month’s wage per year |
| Each year after five | One full month’s wage per year |
| Resign under 2 years | Nothing |
| Resign 2–5 years | One third |
| Resign 5–10 years | Two thirds |
| Resign 10+ years | Full award |
| Employer terminates you | Full award regardless of service length |
Calculated on your last wage including due allowances, and settled within one week of the relationship ending.
Employee Benefits and Legal Rights
| Right | The rule |
|---|---|
| Working hours | 8 a day, 48 a week. Ramadan 6 a day, 36 a week for Muslim workers |
| Breaks | At least 30 minutes after a maximum of 5 consecutive hours. No more than 11 hours total at the workplace |
| Weekly rest | Friday, full pay, at least 24 consecutive hours. One day is the legal minimum |
| Overtime | Hourly wage + 50% of basic |
| Annual leave | At least 21 days, rising to at least 30 after five continuous years |
| Sick leave | 30 days full, next 60 at three quarters, next 30 unpaid |
| Hajj leave | 10–15 days paid, once, after two years’ service |
| Summer outdoor ban | No outdoor work 12:00–15:00, 15 June to 15 September. SAR 3,000 penalty per worker |
| Medical insurance | Employer must provide |
| Iqama and work permit | Employer pays — Article 40 |
| Wage deductions | Capped at 50% of your wage |
| Passport | Your employer has no right to keep it |
Your contract
Contracts for non-Saudis must be written and fixed-term. Arabic is the governing language — bilingual contracts are fine, but the Arabic text prevails even if the English version says otherwise. Your contract must be documented on Qiwa, where you can view, approve, reject or request changes. A contract that never appears in your Qiwa account is a genuine problem.
If your wages are late
Raise it internally, then file for Friendly Settlement through the Ministry — free, filed within twelve months, and running to a twenty-one working day timetable. Since late 2025 the wage clause in a documented Qiwa contract is directly enforceable, so wages unpaid for thirty days or more can lead to funds being taken from the employer’s account without a court case. Helpline 19911, in English, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam and Bengali.
Changing employer
Transfer is possible with your employer’s consent from day one, or without consent after twelve months. You can transfer without consent at any time if you have no documented Qiwa contract, wages are unpaid for three consecutive months, your work permit was not issued within ninety days of arrival, or your permit or iqama has expired. The receiving company must also meet compliance thresholds — most failed transfers fail there, not on the worker. The Ministry states the transfer service is free.
Career Progression
| Stage | Role | Time | Pay (SAR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Helper | Entry | 1,200 – 1,600 |
| 2 | Shuttering carpenter | 6–18 months | 1,600 – 2,800 |
| 3 | Finishing / joinery carpenter | 2–5 years | 2,200 – 4,000 |
| 4 | Machine operator / cabinet maker | 3–6 years | 2,500 – 4,500 |
| 5 | Foreman | 5–9 years | 3,000 – 4,500 |
| 6 | Site supervisor / QC | 8–14 years | 4,000 – 7,000 |
The three moves that raise your pay
- Move from formwork to joinery. The largest single jump available, worth roughly a thousand riyals a month
- Learn workshop machinery. Weeks to learn, years of return, and it takes you out of the summer heat entirely
- Become drawing-literate. Carpenters who can read and set out from shop drawings become foremen; those who cannot, do not
Where carpentry leads
- Fit-out supervision — running joinery installation on hotels and retail
- Facility management — maintenance carpentry in compounds, malls and hotels, with regular hours
- Shop drawing and CNC programming — the technical route out of the tools
- Quality control — inspecting and signing off other people’s work
- Subcontracting — running your own gang, which requires proper commercial registration and sponsorship arrangements
Top Employers
| Employer type | Who they are | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Main contractors | El Seif, Nesma & Partners, Al Bawani, Almabani, Saudi Binladin Group, Al Yamama | Large formwork packages, structured HR |
| International contractors | Samsung C&T, Hyundai E&C, China Harbour, Webuild, CCC | Strong safety culture, stricter documentation |
| Formwork subcontractors | Specialist firms under the above | Where most site carpenters work — check payroll reliability |
| Joinery and fit-out companies | Workshops serving hotels, retail and residential | The better-paid route |
| Furniture manufacturers | Workshops in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam | Indoor, skill-rewarded |
| Facility management | FM companies for compounds, malls, hospitals | Steady hours, better accommodation |
Where to look for vacancies
Saudi Arabia’s government employment platforms — Jadarat and Taqat — are for Saudi nationals only. Expatriates cannot use them. Qiwa handles contracts and transfers, not job hunting.
| Channel | Useful for an expat carpenter? |
|---|---|
| Jadarat / Taqat | ❌ Saudi nationals only |
| Qiwa | ⚠️ Contracts and transfers only |
| Expatriates.com | ✅ The practical board for in-country trade jobs |
| Bayt, Naukrigulf, GulfTalent, LinkedIn | ✅ Better for foreman and supervisor level |
| Direct approach to joinery workshops | ✅ Underused and effective — walk in with photographs |
| Referral from colleagues | ✅ How most trade hiring happens |
Industries Hiring
| Industry | What they need | Pay | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Building construction | Shuttering carpenters at volume | Lower | Outdoor, summer restricted |
| Interior fit-out | Joinery and finishing carpenters | Higher | Indoor, better hours |
| Furniture manufacturing | Cabinet makers, machine operators | Higher | Workshop |
| Hospitality refurbishment | Finishing carpenters | Mid-high | Often night work in live hotels |
| Facility management | Maintenance carpenters | Mid | Best hours, high stability |
| Events and exhibitions | Stand and set builders | Mid | Intense short projects |
| Marine and industrial | Pattern and specialist work | High | Niche |
The pattern: the more visible the finish, the better it pays. Concrete hides formwork; a client runs their hand along a wardrobe door.
Tools and Machinery
Site
- Modular formwork systems — panel systems that have largely replaced traditional timber shuttering on large projects
- Laser levels and total stations — setting out is increasingly instrument-based
- Cordless circular saws, nail guns, impact drivers
- Props, ties and bracing systems — load-bearing components with real safety consequences
Workshop
- Panel saw — accurate sheet cutting, the core workshop machine
- Edge bander — applies edging to board; a real skill and a recognised job title
- CNC router — cuts and machines from a digital file. Learning it is a genuine career step
- Spindle moulder, thicknesser, planer — solid timber work
- Dust extraction — mandatory in a properly run workshop
Does automation threaten the trade?
Not on site. Formwork remains a hand trade because every building is different. In the workshop, CNC has changed the work rather than removed it — the machine cuts, but someone has to programme it, load it, assemble and install the result. Carpenters who learn the machine move up; those who avoid it get squeezed.
Future Industry Trends
1. Riyadh is the centre of gravity
With The Line halted and Trojena delayed, the reliable carpentry work through the rest of the decade sits in Riyadh — Diriyah, Expo 2030, King Salman International Airport and the developments around the metro. If you are choosing where to be based, that is the honest answer for 2026 to 2030.
2. Formwork demand is shifting to fit-out demand
The giga-projects that are actually delivering — Qiddiya, Red Sea, Amaala, Diriyah’s early phases — are moving from structure to interiors. That converts shuttering work into joinery and fit-out work. Carpenters who can only do formwork will find the market tightening; carpenters who can do both will not.
3. Prefabrication is growing
More joinery is being produced in workshops and installed on site as finished units. That moves hours from the site into the factory, which is good news for pay and conditions but requires machine skills.
4. Compliance keeps tightening
Qiwa contract documentation, wage protection enforcement and skill verification all point the same direction — more documented, more checked. For a carpenter with correct paperwork, that makes underpayment harder to sustain.
What to do about it
| If you are… | Do this |
|---|---|
| A helper | Learn to set out and check your own levels. It is what gets you off helper pay |
| A shuttering carpenter | Target joinery and fit-out companies. Bring photographs of your work |
| Tired of the summer heat | Move to a workshop — the outdoor ban does not apply indoors |
| Already skilled in joinery | Learn CNC or edge banding. It is the next pay step |
| Aiming at foreman | Get properly drawing-literate. That is the actual gate |
| On the wrong iqama profession | Ask your employer to process a profession change. The fee is legally theirs |
| A Saudi national | Use TVTC, Jadarat and HRDF subsidies — expats cannot compete for those |

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a carpenter earn in Saudi Arabia in 2026?
It depends which carpentry. Shuttering and formwork carpenters earn roughly SAR 1,600 to 2,800 a month basic. Joinery and finishing carpenters earn roughly SAR 2,500 to 4,000. Helpers start at SAR 1,200 to 1,600 and foremen reach SAR 3,000 to 4,500. Salary websites quoting SAR 5,000 to 9,000 averages are modelling white-collar data.
What is the difference between shuttering and joinery carpentry?
Shuttering carpenters build the timber and plywood moulds that concrete is poured into. It is outdoor site work, physically heavy, and at the lower end of the pay range. Joinery carpenters build kitchens, wardrobes, doors and fit-out items, working in a workshop or on finishing sites to millimetre accuracy, and earn roughly a thousand riyals a month more.
Are carpenter jobs in Saudi Arabia open to expats?
Yes. Carpentry is not on any Saudization list. The 2026 localisation decisions targeted 69 administrative professions, security guards, storekeepers, receptionists, call centre agents, sales and marketing roles, plus higher quotas in engineering and tourism. Manual trades were not included.
Do I need a skill test to work as a carpenter in Saudi Arabia?
Building carpentry is one of the trades covered by the Skill Verification Programme, a practical trade test run by the Ministry of Human Resources with the TVTC. It has a pre-arrival track and an in-country track for workers already employed in the Kingdom. Check your status at svp.qiwa.sa.
Can I be made to work outdoors in the afternoon during summer?
No. Outdoor work in direct sunlight is prohibited between 12:00 and 15:00 from 15 June to 15 September across the private sector, with a penalty of SAR 3,000 per worker found in breach. Workshop joinery is unaffected. Violations can be reported on 19911.
Who pays for my iqama as a carpenter?
Your employer. Under Article 40 of the Labour Law the employer bears recruitment fees, iqama and work permit issuance and renewal, fines from delay, profession change fees, exit and re-entry visa fees, and the return ticket home at contract end. Wage deductions are capped at 50%.
How do I move from formwork to joinery in Saudi Arabia?
Approach joinery and fit-out companies directly with photographs of your own finished work, and ask your current employer whether their fit-out division needs people. Learning workshop machinery — panel saw, edge bander, CNC router — takes weeks and is the clearest route onto joinery rates.
How do I change employer as a carpenter?
With your employer’s consent from day one, or without consent after twelve months. You can also transfer without consent at any time if you have no documented Qiwa contract, wages are unpaid for three consecutive months, your work permit was not issued within ninety days of arrival, or your permit or iqama has expired. The new company must also meet compliance thresholds.
What is my end of service benefit as a carpenter?
Half a month’s wage for each of your first five years, then one full month per year after that, based on your last wage including allowances. Resigning gives nothing under two years, one third at two to five years, two thirds at five to ten, and the full award after ten. Employer termination gives the full award regardless of service length.
Is NEOM still hiring carpenters?
Only in limited areas. Work on The Line has been halted until after 2030 and Trojena delayed, though Oxagon, the green hydrogen plant and data centre projects continue. Diriyah, the Expo 2030 site and King Salman International Airport in Riyadh are far more reliable sources of carpentry work in 2026.
Is there a minimum wage for carpenters in Saudi Arabia?
No. Saudi Arabia has no statutory minimum wage for expatriate workers. The SAR 4,000 figure quoted online is the salary at which a Saudi national counts as one full employee for Saudization purposes and does not apply to expatriates.
Where should I look for carpentry jobs if I am already in Saudi Arabia?
Expatriates.com is the practical board for in-country trade roles and transfers. Bayt, Naukrigulf, GulfTalent and LinkedIn work better at foreman level and above. Approaching joinery workshops directly with photographs is underused and effective. Note that Jadarat and Taqat, the government platforms, are open to Saudi nationals only.
Final Summary
Carpentry in Saudi Arabia pays SAR 1,600 to SAR 2,800 a month on formwork and SAR 2,500 to SAR 4,000 in joinery. That difference — more than a thousand riyals for the same job title — is the single most important thing to understand about this trade, and it is almost never explained.
The trade is fully open to expatriate workers and is not being localised. What is changing is the mix: as the delivering giga-projects move from structure to interiors, formwork demand is converting into fit-out demand, which favours carpenters who can do both.
The law gives you eight-hour days, a paid weekly rest day, twenty-one days’ annual leave rising to thirty, overtime at time and a half, protection from outdoor work in the worst of the summer afternoon, employer-paid iqama costs, and an end of service payment that grows every year you stay.
Three things worth doing this month:
